Zaha Hadid and Phillips de Pury & Company

Zaha Hadid, Seamless

27 November – 15 December 2006

Phillips de Pury, New York

Phillips de Pury & Company and Established & Sons are proud to announce the opening of an exhibition of new work by Zaha Hadid to be held at Phillips de Pury’s Chelsea headquarters in New York.
The 'Seamless' show which will be designed by Hadid will feature a number of furniture designs by the groundbreaking architect and designer that are in direct dialogue with the gallery—highlighting Hadid’s radical interpretation of space and the environment we occupy. Each of the pieces for sale will be functional forms of furniture which compose the first ever collection of furniture by the architect and will be the first work to be made and seen after the mid-retropspective, “Zaha Hadid” which opened this June at The Guggenheim Museum, NYC. These limited edition works will be produced exclusively for the show by the British-based company, Established & Sons and each piece will be made in Britain and feature the innovative use of specific materials which is true to the Established & Sons philosophy of production.
'Seamless is a dialogue of geometry and materiality that invites us to totally re-invent space. These
unique furniture pieces are a direct evolution of our architectural language: soft meets sharp, combining
repetition and variation, whilst balancing the smooth transition between otherwise disparate elements of
furniture.'
Zaha Hadid, the architect known for pushing the boundaries of architecture and design has created some of the most astonishing buildings of recent time alongside products, furniture and interiors. Her far-reaching and fluid forms are informed by multiple perspectives and defy the confines of traditional use of space.
Hadid’s pioneering exploration of form is allowing her to be recognized as one of the most important
people working in the field today. She is the first woman architect to become a Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004.
Best known of her seminal built works include: The Vitra Fire Station in Weil am Rhein, Germany (1993); Bergisel Ski Jump, Innsbruck, Austria (2002); Hoenheim Nord Terminus, Strasbourg, France (2001); The Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art, Cinncinnati, Ohio (2003); The BMW Central Building, Leipzig, Germany (2005); The Ordrupgaard Museum Extension, Copenhagen, Denmark (2005); The Hotel Puerta America interiors, Madrid, Spain (2005); and The Phaeno Science Center, Wolfsburg, Germany (2005).
Currently Hadid is working on a multitude of projects including The Architecture Foundation in London, The Sheik Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi, The Business Bay Towers in Dubai; The Napoli Afragola Train Station in Naples and the Herault Cultural Centre in Montpelier, France.
