Raffinati Store by Blazys Gérard
The design team of Alexandre Blazys and Benoit Gérard created the ultra-minimalist interior of the Raffinati store, located in Montreal, Canada’s Ogilvy building.

The Raffinatti boutique took its conceptual inspiration from the folding and unfolding of the garment. First, a horizontal pliage holds the main garment area and its changing rooms. The second, a vertical intervention holds the second garment area as well as the service point of this high end shop.
The general impact is one of purity. A myriad of whites is used to climate different uses. In fact the serviced and principal circulation is in a glossy finish that allows for a reflection of the user. On the opposite side, the principal shopping area collects a more mat and architectural feel in order to soften the clothing of this line that caters to the female genre. The garments are suspended on sculptural and airy structures leaving the floor of this 600 square foot space empty of any clutter.

the italian manufacturer magis has sent us a preview of some of the new designs they will be showing
off at this year’s milan design week. first up is a yet-to be named storage system by japanese designer
naoto fukasawa. made of ABS plastic the multi-functional piece will feature customizable front panels
in a variety of colour-tinted plastics. second is the ‘360°’ stool by konstantin grcic. this piece is part of
a full collection that will be unveiled at the show. the other pieces are by finnish artist oiva toikka.
toikka designed ‘dodo’ a bird toy and ‘paradise tree’ a coat hanger for magis’ ‘me too’ children’s

The building is so large —1,720 square meters— that we tried to flee from monotony so that the new layout would have rhythm. Not just a rhythm in the formal aspect, but also in the intensity with which each area is experienced. To achieve this, we prepared surprises, changes of atmosphere, each with its own personality, different from the previous one. In this way, the route is more dynamic, as each corner creates expectation. Our aim was to add a “plus” of excitement and emotion for H&M customers.
We used pieces of puzzles to achieve an open design, which creates disparate situations that resolve, invade or colonise each corner of the space. To create furniture that responds to this modular need, we used metal that is superimposed and contrasts with the original wood and stone.
This shop was also conceived as a laboratory. It is a flag ship, an insignia shop. A logistical laboratory in which we studied how to make a storeroom that would enable the rails to be continuously restocked. We also concentrated on on how best to display the clothes. We investigated new ways of showing them and making the most of them. Shelves, rails and hangers, modules, Meccano ceiling fittings were designed bearing in mind the various sizes of the garments and the H&M accessories.

Jamie Hayon’s Rocking Chicken

“Green chicken: The chicken, a rather unexplored shape, found its place amongst my green dreams. I wanted to portray this common bird as a sensational object by amplifying its characteristics and dimensions, turning it into a modern piece, one of great beauty and utility: a rocking chair. The movement, subtle and constant, would give the object a zoom-like trait, a sense of speed and dynamism. My green chicken had taken on a face, a shape, a place and a function.”
